Migrant

A migrant is a broader-term of an 'immigrant' and 'emigrant' and refers to a person who leaves from one country or region to settle in another, often in search of a better life.

In the EU/EFTA context, it therefore refers simply to the period of residency or expected period of residency of at least 12 months. An individual which establishes residence in a EU/EFTA Member State and which was previously a usual resident in another EU/EFTA Member State or third country, will be called a 'migrant' if the period of residence is, or is expected to be, of at least 12 months.
