QOLIVET: Inclusive Strategies for Enhancing the Quality-of-Life Impact of Services

This course was developed by the QOLIVET project and is intended to provide you with an overview of the key ideas and practices that staff in Community Care (CC) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) services can apply in their day-to-day interactions with service participants to enhance the likelihood that the service will have a positive impact on their Quality of Life (QOL). It is important to note that the course is intended as an overview of the topics. The course consists of four modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Quality of Life

Module 2: Professional Attitudes & Skills

Module 3: Creating Inclusive Environments:

Module 4: Responding to atypical learners and complex needs

The course content and learning objectives have been developed to respond to the needs and priorities identified by frontline staff in the partner organisations through a training needs analysis.

The intended outcomes of the course are to:

  • Introduce staff working in community care and vocational educational training to core concepts in the area of quality of life & disability
  • Identify, explain and elaborate on key attitudes and skills that are essential to the promotion of QoL as an outcome of service participation
  • Explore important strategies that can be applied by organisations to ensure the accessibility of premises, materials and methods for a wider range of needs and the role that mainstream and assistive technologies can play in enhancing QoL outcomes for persons with disabilities
  • Describe strategies that can be applied when working with individuals who require additional support to assist in participating in, and getting the best out of, activities and learning opportunities
