Interactive Job Fare

Organisation    Astangu Vocational Rehabilitation Centre
Target Group    Working age people with special needs (age 16 – 64)
Description  Astangu Job Fare took place for the 4th year this spring. We started organising this event with only a few people and almost without any advertising. On the first year, the Job Fare was meant only for Astangu Vocational Rehabilitation Centre's alumni who were looking for companies accepting trainees or offering permanent positions. We realised that there is a need for such event and therefore decided to expand the fare and welcome everyone, who need supported environment in open labor market. Since 2016 everyone is welcomed to participate in the fare.  It’s a unique event, that is targeted to people with special needs, help them find a job in the open labour market or some work-like activities in sheltered work centre. All companies who have come to the fare know and have taken into account that people with special needs need to have flexibility in creating the job profile and work schedule. The purpose of the Job Fare is to bring together employers and people with special needs, give information to people about different companies and their areas of activity. Employers get to know more about the daily routines and capabilities of people with special needs. Every company can set up a stand where to introduce themselves to the guests. They prepare introduction materials and activities to be attractive among the job seekers and job seekers can try some tasks hands-on at the work fare (use the floor cleaning machine, try out IT programmes, change sheets in bed, make smoothies etc). Companies offer permanent jobs and practical training positions.  We also offer a program and workshops for companies who participate - after the fare they can exchange experiences with each other and participate in activities to test their skills and knowledge in special needs (try out wheelchair, bake a cake with eyes blindfolded). During the fare our guests can get career consultation organised by Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund. In 2018 the fare had 23 companies representing different fields (trade, IT, telecommunications, hotel management, sheltered workshops etc). Altogether 500 guests were looking for a job or needed help in career counselling.
